SoNA 2015: Other Sports Disciplines Must Be Treated Same As Football - Prez Mahama

President John Dramani Mahama has charge the Minster of Youth and Sports, Hon Mahama Ayariga and GFA President Kwesi Nyantakyi to treat all sports disciplines equally and revamp Ghana’s local league respectively.

According to the president, his government will now show much interest in what has been term as “lesser known sports” so as to unearth more sportsmen for future tournament worldwide.

Government will this year put a desirable focus on sporting disciplines when it comes to the sports arena order than only football. In other to contribute to their growth and wining of more international medals and competitions, the so called lesser known sports will receive attention,” he said.

Delivering the State of the Nation Address in Parliament in accordance with Article 67 of the 1992 Constitution of the Republic of Ghana, President Mahama noted that, “the lesser known sports” will receive more motivations from government and other institutions.

I understand the frustration of the lesser known sports managers. But we can win more international medals if we pay attentions to them...Government will partner with various cooperate institutions to support the programs of various sports activities this year including the swimming association of Ghana who are producing fast swimmers for the country,” he added

Mr. Mahama also called on the President of the Ghana Football Association [GFA], Kwesi Nyantakyi to spread his tentacles to all national teams.

Let me urge the Ghana Football Associations [GFA] to put a lot more focus on other national teams just like it does for the Black Stars in other to adequately prepare them for international tournaments as well...

"...The seeming total neglect of our local football league is a concern to soccer loving fans. I wish to urge the football association to turn attention to improving the quality of our local league to make it more attractive, exciting and well following,” he charged.
