VEEP Woos Japanese Investors

Vice President K. B. Amissah-Arthur has concluded his visit to Japan with a call on Japanese investors to take advantage of huge investment opportunities offered by Ghana. Mr Amissah-Arthur, who was in Japan to attend the third UN World Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction, also held a number of investment promotion meetings with top Japanese businesses.

Addressing various meetings in Tokyo, the Vice President said the current energy situation also presents opportunities for investment in the power sector.

He therefore urged players in the Japanese power sector to follow the example of Sumitomo Corporation of Japan by also investing in Ghana as an Independent Power Producer. He observed that the rising energy needs of Ghana, coupled with power supply deficit in a number of West African countries, make Ghana a strategic location for such investment.

When this is done, Mr Amissah-Arthur noted that it will not only address Ghana’s needs but will also help make the country an exporter of power to neighbouring countries.

Touching on the short-term measures to address the energy situation, the Vice President urged Japanese companies with a record in the management and restoration of power to especially disaster ravaged areas of their country, to also deploy such technologies in Ghana, even as Government works to fix the situation in the long-term.

As part of the short-term measures, Mr Amissah-Arthur also mentioned that Government would roll out renewable energy solutions in order to save small business from the effects of the power challenges. He therefore urged Japanese companies to also take advantage by providing off-grid renewable energy solutions to Ghana.
Investment opportunity in Ghana’s oil and gas sector was also a subject of high interest for the investors in Japan.
