TDC Pays Dividend To Govt

The Tema Development Corporation (TDC) has paid GH¢1,200,000 to the government as dividend for 2014.
This is an improvement over the dividend for 2013 which was GH¢250,000.

The outgoing Minister of Water Resources, Works and Housing, Alhaji Collins Dauda, who received the cheque in Accra on Monday, said the huge difference between the dividends the company paid in 2013 and 2014 was evidence of significant improvement in its business, indicating that the corporation was doing better.

Commendation
Alhaji Dauda commended the TDC for their performance but said there was still room for improvement.

“I am particularly very happy about the TDC’s performance, because it is an indication that it is healthily competing with the private real estate industry,” he added.

He, therefore, called on other agencies under the ministry to emulate the TDC to ensure more revenue to the government for accelerated development.

Explore PPP
Alhaji Dauda called on the board and management of TDC and other state-owned agencies to explore the Public Private Partnership (PPP) concept to boost their operations, particularly in the housing industry.

According to him, the national housing deficit, in excess of 1.7 million housing units, required diversified interventions such as the PPP.

Alhaji Dauda also indicated that with the performance of the TDC over the years, it had become necessary for the ministry to accelerate the processes of transforming it from a corporation to a company.

That, he said, would allow the TDC to widen its scope of operations to provide safe and affordable homes for more Ghanaians.

The Board Chairman of TDC, Mr Emmanuel O. Adjetey, said in their quest to fulfil the corporation’s mandate, it had consciously made efforts to pay its dividends on yearly basis.

He said the TDC had also succeeded in paying off its debts over the years.
