Kennedy Agyapong Supports NPP's GHC 30,000 Filing Fee

New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament (MP) for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong has described as affordable GHC30,000 slapped on aspirants seeking to contest the party’s primaries.

The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the NPP at its meeting on Monday decided to increase the filing fees for the Parliamentary primaries. Aspirants seeking to contest the party’s Parliamentary primaries in constituencies with sitting MPs will be required to pay GHC30,000.

Ten thousand Ghana cedis (GHC 10, 000) out of the total amount will cover filing fees while 20,000 cedis will cater for the development fee. Incumbent MPs are however exempted from paying the development fees. However, the NEC’s decision has touched some nerves within the party.

But the party General Secretary, Kwabena Agyapong has defended the decision by the NEC saying the new fees were increased due to various economic challenges including inflation.

Speaking on  Okay FM Wednesday, Mr. Kennedy Agyapong said: “Since MP’s are capable of purchasing anything at all they want, paying that sum of money should not be a problem and so they should stop complaining.

“I strongly support that amount for the filing fee because if they can afford anything they deem to have, then it should not call for any complaints” he insisted.
