Sellas Tetteh Criticised For Dropping Anokye Badu

Coach Sellas Tetteh has come under fire for axing one of his key players at the 2015 African Youth Championship in Senegal.

Chief executive officer Roy Arthur of Ghana Premier league side Brong Ahafo United has lashed out at Ghana U-20 coach Sellas Tetteh for excluding in-form defender Anokye Badu from his 35-man provisional squad for the Fifa World Cup in New Zealand.

The centre back of Brong Ahafo United is the only player missing from Tetteh’s squad that participated at the African Youth Championship in Senegal where the team finished in the third place.

Badu’s exclusion from the squad comes as a shock to many, according to Arthur.

“This is an issue that is really bothering me and I feel the selection process was not properly done because on what criteria will you drop Anokye,” Arthur said in an interview with Accra-based Joy FM.

“This is a player who was a star performer during the qualifiers and at the African Championship but come to think of it, most of the players he played ahead of, who could not even make it to the AYC, have surprisingly found their way into the squad. I wonder on what basis was the selection done,” he said.

Tetteh will pick his final 21-man squad from the provisional list for the tournament which begins on May 30 through June 20.

“It is not just about Badu here, but for me I feel the young man has shown consistency at club level and should have been in the squad.”

The Black Satellites will open their U-20 World Cup campaign against Austria on May 30 at the Wellington Regional Stadium in New Zealand before subsequently facing Argentina and Panama in Group B.
