Sulley Muntari will continue to receive his wages at AC Milan despite the decision for the midfielder to no longer play for the club.
The 30-year-old’s agent, Federico Pastorello has offered more details on the new but strange arrangements between the Italian giants and his client after it became very obvious Muntari is no longer wanted by the Rossoneri.
Pastorello had revealed a request by Muntari to be excluded from Saturday’s Serie-A match at Palermo had been accepted. This revelation gave the clearest indication of the Ghanaian’s imminent departure from the club despite having over a year to run on his existing deal.
Muntari has now been reduced to a bit-part player at the Italian giants.
He has been benched in four of the side’s last five matches despite being fully fit and not suspended.
Pastorello now reveals the situation will be extended for the remainder of the season with his client not wanting to continue to sit on the Milan bench for matches – enforcing reports the Ghana international’s days at the San Siro are numbered.
“There is no controversy behind this decision. It was agreed fully with the club,” agent Federico Pastorello told La Gazzetta dello Sport.
“We spoke to Adriano Galliani and we reached this point. It’s a situation that will continue for the rest of the season, unless [coach] Pippo Inzaghi has an emergency and needs him.
“Muntari will continue to train with the team every day, and on Saturday and Sunday he will train alone. He will be paid by the club because he’ll continue his employment. It was a mutual decision for him not to play.
“There are no disciplinary or medical reasons. He just wants to avoid sitting on the bench as a substitute.
“It’s a demonstration of fairness for an important player who is aged 31 and has already been told he’s not part of the future at Milan.”
