Ayew Brothers Nominated For 2015 Marc-Vivien Fo� Award
Organisers of the Marc-Vivien Foé annual prize have published the nominees for this year’s edition. Ghanaian brothers Jordan Ayew and Andre Ayew of FC Lorient and Olympique Marseille respectively were shortlisted for the 2014 award.
This is the first time that 23-year-old Jordan has been nominated for his exploits in with Les Merlus, netting nine goals in 25 matches.
His elder brother meanwhile, makes the list for his second nomination since 2012 after scoring seven goals in 22 appearances this term.
The accolade is meant to honour the best African player in the French Ligue 1 each year and is voted for by sport journalists selected by French media RFI and France 24.
Nigeria goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama of Lille won last year’s edition and has been nominated once more for the upcoming award.
The prize was initiated in 2009 as homage to Foé, a Cameroonian international footballer, who collapsed and died on June 26, 2003 while Cameroon were facing Colombia in the semi-final of the Fifa Confederations Cup.
Previous winners are Marouane Chamakh (2009), Gervinho (2010, 2011), Younès Belhanda (2012), Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (2013) and Vincent Enyeama (2014).
