Maiden Edition of Ghana Food Festival Set For May 1

The Ghana Tourist Development Company Limited, under the auspices of the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, is organising its first ever food festival scheduled to hit Accra in May 2015. The two-day event is dubbed, Foodfest: Taste Ghana & Beyond, and will come off at the Efua Sutherland Park on May 1 and 2, amidst a lot of other activities. Among its objectives are to give preferential treatment to local Ghanaian foods alongside foreign ones and to promote tourism. TDC is the investment holding wing of the tourism industry and we are mandated to try and win investors, locally and internationally. So whatever we do to bring these investors in is what we must do. So we decided to come up with the festival since it is another platform to attract investors, ace news anchor and an official of the festival, Gideon Aryeequaye, explained at the events launch at the Coconut Groove Hotel in Accra last Wednesday. We are hoping to do it every year. It does not necessarily mean it is going to be on May 1 and 2 of every year because the maiden is strategically positioned to coincide with Ghanas May Day celebration just for us to drive traffic there. We are hoping to assemble everybody who is into food and beverages together with music and also have fun. It is to let us get together, get to know each other and as a way to also promote our tourism industry food wise, he added. Present at the launch were Hon Dzifa Gomashie, Deputy Minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, musician Amandzeba Nat Brew, Nana Adwoa Awindor and a host of other personalities including local cuisine operators. Hon Dzifa Gomashie employed Ghanaians to patronise made in Ghana products, be it music, movie or food. That, she said, would help boost the economy of Ghana.
