Al Ittihad Revoke Yahaya Mohammed Deal

The former Asante Kotoko striker has mutually terminated his contract with Libyan side Al Ittihad. Ghanaian midfielder Mohammed Yahaya and Libyan club Al Ittihad have parted ways after agreeing to terminate his recent contract with the North African team, the player confirmed to Goal on Tuesday. The 27-year-old, who had been tipped to be an instant hit in Libya, has already returned to Ghana following the abrogation of the two-year deal. Ittihad had recruited Yahaya primarily to help them progress in the Caf Champions League, however, an early elimination at the hands of Ivorian giants Asec Mimosas saw a significant drop in their interest in the Ghanaian. The termination of his contract now makes him a free agent meaning he is eligible to join any club of his choice including Ghanaian teams. Reports in the local media indicate that Ghana Premier League side Ashanti Gold are in talks with Yahaya to sign him for the rest of the season. The former Nice player forced his move out of Asante Kotoko last season by beginning negotiations with the Libyan outfit. Kotoko later accused him of signing a secret contract with Ittihad, banning him from playing with the Kumasi-based side for the rest of his contract which lasted until June 2014. He was a member of the local Black Stars that finished second at the last edition of the African Nations Championship (Chan) in South Africa last year.
