Ex- Black Stars Captain John Mensah Linked With Ashanti Gold SC

Ex Ghana international John Mensah could be set for a return to the Ghana Premier League after being linked with Ghana League leaders Ashanti Gold SC, Ghanasportsonline.com can exclusively reveal.

The Len Clay side have set their sights on the elusive Ghana premier league trophy and the revelation that the miners will invest heavily in the coming transfer window has seen them being linked with the 32-year-old.

The ex Rennes and Sunderland defender is thought to have developed interest in ending his career in the local league and with his boyhood club.

Mensah, who last featured competitively for Slovak side FC Nitra, was reported to have joined local side Asante Kotoko but the much publicised deal was denied by the Reds.

It is becoming increasingly clear that coach Bashiru Hayford's side would splash the cash for the rugged centre-back who is eager to return to the pitch after series of injuries cut his professional career short.

Public Relations head of the club Kofi Yawson told Ghanasportsonline.com "Mensah is our own man, he quiet comes to visit us and he has made several donations to the club whiles he played abroad but I cannot confirm anything on his rumoured return"

"The coach has hinted that he would make some signings before the start of the second round but presently, we cannot name any player on the line.

"We would love to keep everything low and do the deals".

Ashgold lie at the summit of the First Capital Premier League and would take steps to augment their squad to propel them towards the title they last won two decades ago.

Mensah started his career in Obuasi with the Ashanti Gold Youth team, then (Goldfields Academy), before journeying to Europe to begin his professional career with Italian side Bellinzona
