Ruff N Smooth Caught In Xenophobic Attacks In South Africa

When Ghana’s award-winning Afro beats duo, Ruff N Smooth landed in Johannesburg, South Africa to begin work on the visuals for their newest single “ToloTolo Baby” which features Nigeria’s Wizboyy, they never expected to be caught in the chaos of xenophobia.

In recent weeks, several reports and videos have circulated on the inhumane acts from South African natives against foreign migrants.

The attacks and reports while gruesome did not prepare Ahkan and Bullet who make Ruff N Smooth music group for the harsh realities of being in the violence-ridden region. The trip, which only lasted five days [April 15th, 2015 to April 20th, 2015], was cut short due to heated attacks occurring in prime locations picked by the director for the video shoot. To pay their respects to the victims, the shoot was suspended.

Ahkan and Bullet expressed deep sympathy for those caught in the attacks and condolences to victims and families especially those of Ghanaian descent who lost their lives. They have also implored their audience, fans and all of Africa to pray for peace and oneness to prevail in South Africa.

“ToloTolo Baby”, the duo’s newest smash hit, which hit the airwaves by storm is another great Ghana-Nigeria collaboration featuring Wizboyy. The song fuses Twi, Pidgin English and different Nigerian words/phrases and looks to be one of the songs of the season. It also continues to illustrate the beauty that can be produced when two different entities come together for a common goal (in this case music). Ruff N Smooth promises their fans in Ghana, Nigeria and all countries on the continent and beyond the release a world class video production of “ToloTolo Baby” as soon as the violence ceases to resume shooting in South Africa.
