Ghana U-20 To Play Qatar On May 4th In Five Nation Tournament

The Black Satellites of Ghana will open their four nation tournament with a fixture against the Qatari Youth side on the 4th of May in Auckland.

Sellas Tetteh's side will join New Zealand, Australia Qatar and Panama at the 10-day mini tournament beginning Sunday, May 3.

Ghana will kick off the tournament against the 2022 World Cup hosts, Qatar, whose current U-20s are expected to form the basis of the senior team.

The Oil rich Middle-East are funding their own pre-tournament tournament, as preparations for the Under-20 World Cup get into full swing next month.

Ghana and Panama are part of the World Cup but are now arriving earlier than they otherwise would, while Australia is putting together a scratch team to send across the Tasman — Australia failed to qualify for the World Cup.

The upcoming Under-20 World Cup is important for Qatar on many levels. Their squad should form the basis of their senior team for the 2022 World Cup, when they will be a host nation desperate to impress.
The invitational tournament will be a fine opportunity for the Ghana U 20 team to weigh their strength after coach Sellas Tetteh made some new inclusions in his provisional squad ahead of submitting his final 21 list to Fifa by May 15.

The Black Satellites left the shores of Ghana on Wednesday and will need about two days to arrive in New Zealand.
Sellas Tetteh will lead his boys to their first game at the tournament against Qatar at the QBE Stadium at 1am GMT (3am CAT) on Monday.

Ghana will next play a New Zealand Invitational XI team at the Waikato Stadium in Hamilton on May 10 before rounding off against Australia at the same venue three days later.

The Satellites will play additional matches against sides in Australia to the start of the tournament on May 30.
