NDC Parliamentary Aspirants Asked To Cease Campaigning

The Eastern Regional Branch of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has directed all prospective parliamentary aspirants to cease campaigning and work towards building a solid party.

It said what was needed now was that: " Our sitting Members of Parliament are working hard to support government policies and programmes and therefore need no distractions at this time".

This was contained in a statement signed by the Regional Secretary of the party, Mr Mark-Oliver Kevor, in Koforidua after a meeting between the current and old regional executive to iron out any differences.

He said the national executive committee of the party had not given any directive on the conduct "of our parliamentary primaries hence it is illegal for anyone to embark on any campaign with the aim of gaining grounds ahead of the party’s primaries".

According to Mr Kevor, offenders might become subjects of disciplinary actions and, therefore, advised prospective aspirants and their supporters to desist from abusive language on radio or any platform since that would only adversely affect the party.

The rationale for the meeting, he said, was to address all outstanding issues and bring the former executives on board in order to strengthen the party’s front towards Election 2016.

On record

"Let me also place on record that the Regional Chairman of the party, Mr Bismark Tawiah Boateng, pleaded with anybody who has been offended in one way or the other by the actions or inaction of other persons to let sleeping dogs lie in order to pave the way for the party", he added.

Mr Kevor said moves were far advanced to bring everybody on board because of their experiences and knowledge and pointed out that the party had put together practical programmes to help achieve its "Agenda 50 - 50.’’

"We have resolved to include all old executives and other stakeholders in our outreach programmes to the constituencies and all branches across the region", Mr Kevor said.
