Blow-By-Blow Account Of How NPP U/E Regional Chair Died - Police Version

Upper East Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party, Adams Mahama, on Thursday morning joined his ancestors after a rather grisly and macabre attack on him in the late hours of Wednesday.

He was reportedly attacked by two assailants who poured the corrosive substance on his face and entire body and he was about entering his house.

Gregory Afoko, younger brother of Paul Afoko, the NPP's National Chair, stands accused as one of the two assailants who carried out the attack.

Mahama Adams died Thursday morning as he was being prepared to be transferred from the Bolgatanga Central Hospital to Accra for further treatment.

But what really happened before the attack? And why he stopped his vehicle when he asked to by the two assailants remains the question.

The Upper East Regional Police Command has given insight to the deceased last days on earth.

PRO for the outfit, ASP Thomas Agbanyo asserts the incident was reported to the police on Wednesday night about 11:30pm.

According to him, moments before he died, the deceased told the police that he was attacked near his house after he had stopped to exchange pleasantries with two gentlemen he knew quite well.

Speaking on Oman Fm’s "National Agenda" show, ASP Agbanyo said the two men allegedly poured a corrosive substance believed to acid on Mahama Adams as he rolled down his car side window to respond to their greetings.

“The stench of the acid was just so much that when we opened the Pick-Up he was driving in all the seats were torn by the acid. He was showered with the acid, from the head through the face to the body and all parts,” he recounted.

According to the U/E Police PRO, the late Mahama Adams mentioned the names of the two men involved in the attack and based on that information, the police caused the arrest of one of the assailants, while the second suspect is said to be on the run.

ASP Thomas Agbanyo also revealed that the deceased's wife suffered some burns on her hand, as she, in her haste attempted to help rush the husband to a hospital.

He pleaded with the media to exercise patience as investigations are still ongoing as the police does its best to bring the culprits to book.

“We went to the hospital to see him lying down with bruises all over his body. We saw that one of his eyes was greatly affected as a result of the acid poured on him….when we arrest the other suspect, we will put their names out in the public domain but for now we are still continuing with investigations”, ASP Thomas Agbanyo stated.
