Agbeko Set To Rumble Against Rubillar Tonight

Joseph King Kong Agbeko takes his first fight in 17 months this evening when he faces Filipino boxer, Juaninto Rubillar at the El Paso County Coliseum, El Paso, Texas, USA.

Agbeko will also be fighting for the first time on his new 3-year deal with Roy Jones Junior Promotions as the Ghanaian seeks another world title chase.

The former 2-time IBF Bantamweight champion fights Rubillar at Super Bantamweight after both boxers successfully made the required weights at Friday's pre-fight weigh-in.

Agbeko last fought when he lost a bid for the unified Junior Featherweight world titles to undefeated Guillermo Rigondeaux in December 2013 but the former IBO Bantamweight world champion is up for the challenge on Saturday night.

“I have been in the gym for quite some time now, undergoing training at Floyd Mayweather’s gym in Las Vegas with Floyd’s uncle, Roger Mayweather and I have learnt from him,” Agbeko told AmaLarbieAfrica.com in an interview last month.

“I am working very hard for my comeback. So I am very well prepared for this fight,” he said of the clash against 67-fight veteran, Juanito Rubillar.

King Kong added: “Although every fighter is a threat; it’s boxing, it’s about win, lose or draw and Rubillar has fought more than I have and is very experienced.

"I am very well-prepared and I assure Ghanaians and fans worldwide nothing but victory at the end of this fight. It really means a lot to me.”
