Spio-Garbrah Lauds AFDB: "Bretton Woods Must Learn From Africa"

Ghana�s Trade and Industry Minister, Hon. Ekow Spio-Garbrah has lauded the African Development Bank for its sterling performance and also, its showcase of a unique and innovative democratic way of electing its President.

"Giving them one year to campaign and making them to do presentations is not even done by the IMF and World Bank and the world must learn from the African Development bank", the Minister intimated.

Dr. Spio-Garbrah, who was speaking in a sideline interview with the African Development magazine and Ghana Image during the Annual General Meeting of the premier development bank which ended in the Ivorian capital of Abidjan, last Friday, took cognizance of the various factors of development that were discussed namely, finance, agriculture, gender, industrialization, role of the youth, among others.

He also touched on the bank's sponsored Rural Enterprise Program in Ghana under which 116 districts have so far been covered .The program he said encourages the setting of rural businesses such as poultry, piggery and horticultural production whereby entrepreneurs are supported with capital between the range of GHc5, 000 to GHc 50,000.00

With the election of the Nigerian Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development as the new President of the bank Hon. Spio-Garbrah had higher expectations for the bank in the next five to ten years.
