Afoko And Kwabena Agyepong's Children Can Attend Mahama Adams' Funeral Rites

New Patriotic Party (NPP) Chairman Paul Afoko and General Secretary Kwabena Agyepong are still persona non-grata at the final funeral rites (Adua) of the late Upper East Regional chairman of the party, Adams Mahama.

They are simply not wanted at the Adua to be observed on 6th June, 2015, a member of the Upper East Communication team of the party has stated.

Latif Salifu issued the threat while speaking on Accra-based Atinka FM on Wednesday morning.

The beleaguered executives of the party could not make it to the burial of Adams Mahama who died through an acid attack last month after they were threatened by some youth of the party.

Their absence from the burial did not prevent a mini demonstration by some angry youth of the party who demanded that they leave their positions.

With party flagbearer, Nana Akufo-Addo, ex-President John Kufuor and several other top notch in the party and the country calling for peace, some had expected that the two would be allowed to attend the funeral of Adams Mahama.

But the calls for peace in the NPP seem to have hit some deaf ears as some aggrieved youth in Upper East maintain that the security of the duo cannot be guaranteed at the funeral.

“Even Boko Haram cannot protect them if they come to the funeral. We shall show them that Nigeria is not the only country that has Boko Haram…,” Latif Salifu said.

According to Latif, the family members of Adam Mahama are still traumatized and they “cannot sit and watch these two people sit at the funeral grounds.”

Every Ghanaian is free to attend the funeral, Latif said, adding that even the children of Afoko and Agyapong can attend the funeral and nothing will happen to them.

He however emphasized that "the two party officers will definitely not be entertained."
