Nadal Wears 510,000 Watch To Play Tennis At French Open

Given that he's got his tenth French Open title on the line, you'd expect Rafael Nadal to be doing everything possible to gain even the slightest advantage.

This is why it came as such a big surprise that 'The King of Clay' was spotted wearing a sizeable, £510,000 wristwatch during his fourth round victory over Jack Sock.

Nadal wore the RM27-02 watch, made by luxury Swiss watch company Richard Mille, who are making just 50 of them.

Despite claiming to weigh just 20 grams and be able to withstand 5,000 Gs of force, the bulkiness of the watch is sure to play on the mind of someone as fastidious as Nadal.

Nadal is renowned for scrupulously adjusting his shorts before serving, as well as sipping his two drinks and aligning his water bottles in a specific manner.

As the 28-year-old utilises a two-handed backhand and uses his right hand to toss whilst serving, the watch clearly comes into play mid-match.

However, Nadal told The Wall Street Journal that despite first being skeptical of wearing the watch at first, he now barely notices its presence.

'In the beginning there was a little bit of transition, we had to work together to adjust everything to my wrist,'

'It’s like you are wearing nothing. It’s part of my skin.'

The Spaniard set up a blockbuster quarter-final against world No 1 Novak Djokovic with a 6-3 6-1 5-7 6-2 victory over Jack Sock on Monday.
