Nigeria under-20 head coach, Manu Garba, feels self-assured that his team are ready to go up against Germany and any other country at the FIFA Under-20 World Cup in New Zealand.
The Flying Eagles have set up a round of 16 clash with Germany at the Christchurch Stadium on Thursday. The Germans finished as Group F winners by claiming the maximum nine points and scoring 16 goals and conceding just two.
Apparently Garba is aware that the contest in Christchurch later this week is massive as his African champions face the European champions, and he is already prepping up the confidence level of his men to be ready for the free-scoring Germans.
He stated that if the Flying Eagles want to become world champions for the first time, they should be ready to face any team at the FIFA Under-20 World Cup.
“Our next game is against Germany but we are ready for any team, because if we want to be champions we have to be ready for them,” said Garba.
Garba also expressed satisfaction with the outcome of their last group match against Hungary on Sunday in which Taiwo Awoniyi got a couple of goals to sink the Europeans and finish in second place behind Brazil.
But the Nigeria coach had hoped his team could have scored more goals than the two from Awoniyi.
“It was a very good match for us. We wanted to score more, but still I’m happy with the 2-0 result. The Hungarians play more from the wings but we were able to control the game and the outcome,” said Garba.
