Andre Ayew Close To Swansea Deal Says Harry Redknapp

The former Tottenham Hotspur coach believes the Ghana forward will soon complete a deal to move to the Welsh side.

Andre Ayew is on his way to Swansea City and will conclude a deal with the club imminently, according to former Tottenham Hotspur coach Harry Redknapp.

The veteran manager, writing on his newly-launched @Redknapp Twitter handle, claimed that the Ghanaian travelled to South Wales on Tuesday afternoon in order to conclude a deal.

“Heard Swansea are close to signing Andre Ayew from Marseille,” Redknapp began.

“He’s on the way there with his agent Mark Mackay to do the deal. Good player.”

A move to Swansea would come as something of a surprise, as even though the Swans have been included among the player’s long list of suitors, other sides appeared closer to securing a deal for the playmaker.

Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United have been reported as being close to completing a deal for the Black Star, following the breakdown in his talks with AS Roma over the weekend of the Europa League final.

The Olympique de Marseille man has also been linked with the likes of Inter Milan and Bayer Leverkusen, although Newcastle United recently confirmed that they would not be considering the player due to the price involved in bringing him to St. James’ Park.

While Liverpool had previously been considered as a potential destination for the player—who is out of contract at the end of June—the Reds have not featured in the recent transfer speculation surrounding the player.

Having confirmed that he would not only move to a club who could offer him Champions League football, Ayew claimed—in an interview afforded to BBC Sport—that he would be open to a switch to any side in the top ten of the Premier League.

"It doesn't have to be a Champions league club. I've played in the competition before, it's the best competition in the world but it's not the first criteria," he began.

"I think the first criteria is the team project, what the team wants to do in the future because I want to play for a long time and try to win trophies because that's what football is all about."

"There are a lot of great clubs in England, of course the top four but down to the top 10. It's a great league, for me the best in the world at the moment," Ayew concluded.

Swansea finished eighth under Garry Monk last season, and while they ultimately missed out on European football altogether, they may well represent the kind of ‘project’ that appeals to the 25-year-old.
