Ghana Fans Should Show Support Always, Says Asamoah Gyan

The Black Stars captain has called on local supporters to stand by the team in all situations.

Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan has urged fans to rally behind the team through thick and thin and not only when they win matches.

Gyan claims that the best way to support a team shouldn't be only when they are winning but also when they are down with all hope lost.

The Black Stars thrashed Mauritius 7-1 at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday in Group H of the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, to spark night-long delirious scenes across the West African nation.

“We thank the fans so much for their maximum support. We appreciate it so much. They should continue to back us even in difficult times and not only when we win because that is the ideal support,” Gyan told Goal.

“It does not matter where we play, whether in Accra, Tamale, Kumasi or Essipong, all we need is to have the full support of our fans which is a big motivation for us.”

Gyan is happy with how they opened their qualifying campaign and hopes the 2015 Afcon finalists maintain their top form.

“We played very well against Mauritius and that is good for us. We needed a big win and we scored seven. That is great for us because it is the first game of the qualifiers. Hopefully, we will continue like that,” he said.

Ghana will face Rwanda in Kigali in the second match day of the qualifiers early September.
