Minister for Petroleum Hon Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah in a crunch meeting between management of MODEC and members of General Transport, Petroleum and Chemical Workers Union (GTPCWU) in the Ministry, has directed that MODEC to stick to the Memorandum of Understanding signed between the Ministries of Petroleum, Employment Labour Relations and the workers union.
He also asked that necessary packages be prepared for employees who wants voluntarily leave MODEC, adding that “those who want to remain at post and work should be allowed to work with full benefits without being harassed or targeted as stated in the MoU”.
The HR Manager of MODEC Alex Obu Simpson in his response to allegation that the reinstated workers have not been taken to the FPSO after signing of the MoU, explained that an OIM (Offshore Installation Permit) has to be secured to enable them start work on the FPSO, meanwhile, the affected workers have been reassigned to different roles pending the issuance of the permit.
Samuel Quarshie Chairman of the Workers Union assured the Minister of their commitment to protecting the interest of not only workers but management and the company, noting that there will be no workers without a company.
Leadership of the Union has therefore agreed to rescind their decision to embark on a strike action.
The Minister asked management and the workers to work together to ensure success of the project because it is strategic to the petroleum sector in particular and Ghana as a whole.
