Chelsea's Move For Baba Rahman Was Motivated By Avram Grant - George Afriyie

Ghana coach Avram could be a major influence in the transfer of Ausburg and Black Stars sensational left-back Baba Abdul Rahman, Ghana FA Exco member George Afriyie has revealed.

The former Asante Kotoko defender has become a center of transfer tussle for several top European clubs after an impressive season for the Bundesliga side.

Reports in the British media this week indicate that Chelsea are facing stiff competition from Premier League rivals Arsenal and Manchester City for the signing of the 22-year-old

The Blues are looking at the Ghana international as a potential replacement for Filipe Luis, who is keen to leave the champions and is wanted by former club Atletico Madrid and Inter Milan.

Augsberg are prepared to cash in on their prize asset, who was regarded as the best left back in the Bundesliga this term.

They have set a minimum asking price of £14.2m for his signature and a number of clubs are weighing up a bid, but Ghana Black Stars management chief George Afriyie has revealed that Avram Grant, who managed Chelsea a couple of years ago, would want to see the player at Chelsea.

“The coach always wants to build a relationship with the club and the player so that in future if issues of delay in release he can chip in a word,” Afriyie told Accra based Happy FM.

“I am sure you have heard that Chelsea are interested in Baba Rahman it’s all because Grant has put in a word for him.

The lanky defender is currently holidaying in Ghana but is expected to sort out his club future in the coming days.
