Mobile networking experience is going to get much enhanced and reliable as Tigo Ghana embark on a nationwide construction of a new cell site project to improve quality mobile networking.

The telecommunication giant says it is investing $24 million to upgrade its cell sites to help make the network stable and improve customers’ voice and data experience.

The first phase of the upgrade which is expected to be completed in September this year, will see 114 new cell sites enhanced in the Greater Accra, Ashanti and Western Regions.

During a tour to the cell sites in Accra, Chief Technical and Information officer of Tigo, Ron Reddick assured that the completion of the upgrade would provide Tigo customers a new level of experience on the network.

“If you have very good cell sites, a lot of things work well for the customers-calls, data and internet experience. Downloads of music and videos on YouTube and whatsapp would be faster” he said

According to him, the new sites would also help split the traffic in high traffic areas – adding that Tigo teams across the country are working on setting up multiple sites, optimizing the broadband to enhance customer experience.

The project which will be in two phases is expected to be executed by the end of 2016 – the first phase which has underway will see 114 cell sites erected across the country with 17 percent of the site in the capital, Accra - 30 percent will be in the Ashanti and Western.

Currently in Accra, the cell sites are located in Osu and the La Beach.
