This was an observation made by Dr. Joseph Siaw Agyepong when he visited staff of Union Savings and Loans (Union S&L) to back them for coming out with a laudable idea to develop their workforce.
Peacefmonline.com spoke to the Executive Chairman of Zoomlion and JOSPONG Groups of Companies and according to him, one “can’t go the extra mile” if he or she is deprived of development in management.
“It is laudable for Union Savings and Loans to set aside six months to develop some of their staff...it is a secret to success because elsewhere, leaders are groomed to perform”, he said.
He further cautioned Ghanaians especially our youth to exercise patience when it comes to development. From his observation, majority of the Ghanaian youth live and yearn to live lifestyles beyond their means.
“When a young man starts business, he just wants to jump to the top. But people have done that and found themselves in trouble. Someone starts a business and immediately he or she wants to build a house ... He lives beyond his means but always remember that having patience as a manager is very key to success”, the successful business mogul said.
In a separate interview with Mr. Philip Oti- Mensah, who is the MD for Union S&L he disclosed that the overall objective of the program is to ensure that people managing the important part of Union’s business would have the same identity, culture and develop the same way of doing things.
“This is the only way we can win the market”, he said.
He explained that since the company started its operation of rebranding over the last three years, they decided to build the institution with young talents. For six months, the selected mangers would under training.
“They would spend five weeks in the classroom and the rest of the weeks would be on the job. They would be given projects and assigned to other part of the country to gather information and analyze”, he hinted.
