Miss Ghana Train Hits Ho

The Volta Region last weekend hosted an exciting pageant, dance contest and musical performances when the Miss Ghana and National Dance Championship 09 nationwide tour stopped over at the GNAT Hall at Ho. The audience at the event included Togbe Afede, the Agbogbomefia of Asogli Traditional Area; Joseph Amenowode, the Volta Regional Minister; Col. Cyril Neku, the Deputy Regional Minister, and Isaac Kodobissah, the Ho Municipal Chief Executive. They all observed keen battles to select contestants to represent the Volta Region in the national beauty and dance finals scheduled for September. The verdict of the judges seemed to tally with the thinking of the highly participatory audience who excitedly shouted out their approval as the Master of Ceremony, Kwame Sefa Kayi, aided by Black Boy and Maame Efua Anane-Darko, announced winners for the night. In the beauty segment, Mimi Areme, a 20-year-old student of Sunyani Polytechnic, Dela Kumashie, a 23-year-old Marketing Executive, and Edna Agamah, a 21-year-old student of the Ghana Institute of Journalism, strode past seven other contestants to move on to the next stage of the contest. Each of the ladies received a prize of GH200 and the public will now vote for two of them for the opportunity to be at the Miss Ghana final. Kofi Akakpo and Shadrack Kpakpo danced their way past eight other contestants to represent the region at the dance final. They received GH200 and GH100 respectively for their efforts. Newcomer Bongo-I shared his reggae and conscious lyrics with the audience, and Ashimashi & Prophet Aluta showed some promise. Dancer/singer Paa T put on a rousing show and the popular Sidney did the first live presentation of his new work, Economic Mobile Phone. Rapper Agbeko No. 9 was, however, the toast of the whole show as he blew everybody away with his incisive and gripping tracks in Ewe. Togbe Afede, who hosted the beauty contestants and officials of Media Whizz Kids, the event organiser, to lunch on Sunday, said he was delighted at how smoothly the Ho show went and hoped the next Miss Ghana would come from the Volta Region. The Miss Ghana and National Dance Championship is organised by Media Whizz Kids and sponsored by PHC Motors, Labadi Beach Hotel and Somovision. Donors include Club Beer, Bonaqua, Forever Clair Skin and Beauty Clinic, ATL, Forever Easy, Buck Press, Trendsetters, Dannys Decoration, Sound Check, DDP, Prosline Gh Limited and Dannys Bridal Fair.
