Junior Doctors Have Themselves To Blame Accountant General

The Controller and Accountant General’s Department (CAGD) says they cannot be blamed for the non-payment of the 10-month salary arrears of junior doctors across the country.

Some 91 doctors nationwide have threatened to occupy the offices of CAGD until they are paid their arrears. The doctors have not been paid since September 2014; since they began working at their respective hospitals.

But speaking to Kwami Sefa Kayi on PEACE FM morning show ‘Kokrokoo’, The Director of Payroll at the CAGD, George Baah said the problem is not from them.

According to him, they don’t have records of 91 doctors, adding “we need to find out from them where they have gotten to in terms of the processing of their documents. They should find out if they have all gone through the biometric process. They need to find out if they have completed their biometric registration process at the Ministry of Finance before the list will be given to us to process their salaries".

He urged the doctors to start their investigations from the facilities they work in; "probably their respective hospitals have not finished the documentation before it will be forwarded to the Ministry of Health and then to the Ministry of Finance before it will get to Controller..."

However, Dr. Nana Kissi Attafah, spokesperson for the affected doctors, speaking on the same platform said they have all completed their biometric registration and that it is left with CAGD to do their part.
