Stonebwoy, Sarkodie, Others Nominated For AFRIMMA 2015 Awards

Efya, Stonebwoy, Becca, Sarkodie, Wiyaala, R2bees and Kwabena Kwabena are among some music stars from Africa and around the globe who will be honoured for their contribution to African music at the second edition of the AFRIMMA awards ceremony slated for October 10, 2015.

This year, the excitement will be bigger as Nigerian comedian Basketmouth and East Africa's comedy queen, Uganda's Anne Kansime, will be hosting the show together.

At the maiden edition last year, rising star, Wiyaala, made Ghana proud and won herself two awards.

This year, 'Baafira' by Stonebwoy featuring Sarkodie is likely to win song of the year if it is able to beat Sauti Sol's 'Sura Yako' and a host of other great tunes that have dominated African music this year.

Sarkodie was nominated for Best Rap and Best Male West Africa, as Efya, Becca and Wiyaala battle for the title Best Female West Africa.

R2bees are up for Video Of The Year with their tune 'Lobi' and Kwabena Kwabena stands up against Nigeria's Flavour and a host of others for the title Best Traditional Artiste.

This year has no doubt been a good one for Sarkodie and dancehall artiste, Stonebwoy.

The two earned enviable nominations at the recently held Black Entertainment Awards which the latter went on to win the Best International Act Africa award, but luck eluded them at the just-ended MTV Africa Music Awards (MAMAs) when Ghana came home empty handed.

That notwithstanding, many Ghanaians are confident our artistes will shine at the upcoming AFFRIMA's where Ghana has nominations in 13 categories.

In all, 28 awards will be presented at the AFRIMMA ceremony which was instituted in 2014 to celebrate the beauty of African music and its artistry. Ghanaian actress, Juliet Ibrahim and Nigerian comedian, Basketmouth, were the hosts at last year's event.
