Audit Service To Be 100 Years In 2010

The Audit Service of Ghana will be 100 years in August 2010 but still faces major challenges such as lack of office accommodation and sufficient number of vehicles to facilitate its movements into the various regions and districts to perform its duties. Mr Richard Quartey the Acting Auditor General made this known in an interview with Peace FM at a workshop organised for the Parliamentary Press Corps by the Canadian Parliamentary Centre (CPC) at Sogakope in the Volta region. The workshop was aimed at preparing the Press Corps adequately for the coverage of the Public Hearing on the Auditor Generals Report on Performance Audit of some public institutions. The Public Hearing is to be held by the Public Accounts Committee of Parliament from 19th 24th August 2009.According to Mr Quartey, lack of office accommodation compels staff of the Audit Service to use buildings provided by the same clients they are supposed to audit thereby negating the independence of the officers.
