NDC Womens Organiser Attacked

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Womens Organiser for Eastern region, Evelyn Ama Korang, was on Thursday turned into a punching bag by her own party people at Akwatia in the run-up to the re-run of elections in the town. She was whipped like a school girl for expressing her mind. This unfortunate incident happened on Thursday afternoon after the Regional Minister, Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo who doubles as the National Organiser of the ruling NDC, together with the womens organizer, led party faithful in a keep-fit march through the Akwatia town to help bolster the chances of the party in tomorrow's re-run at the six polling stations in Akwatia. According to sources, the beating pre-meditated and might have been because she had been opposing the partys Parliamentary candidate, Baba Jamal. Sources said three people, namely David Dakudzi, the constituency youth organiser of the party, his assistant, James Effah and one other, Michael Quarshie in Baba's camp, intentionally went to the club house of the defunct Ghana Consolidated Diamond Company (GCD) and pretended they were holding a meeting at the place to map out a strategy for the re-run and thus invited the womens organiser to be part of it. When she went to the place, they made it plain to her that they were going to teach her a lesson for always 'opposing' Baba. The three, allegedly led by the constituency youth organizer, 'disciplined' the womens organiser by delivering some 'hefty' blows to her body like a boxers practising on a punching bag.According to sources, the beating happened in the presence of Baba Jamal but he had already denied that. After escaping from her attackers, she went straight to the Akwatia Police Station and reported the incident upon which the three accused persons were picked up by the police. They have all been given bail pending further investigations. The action of the three people has angered some party executives in the region especially the Regional Minister who is reported to have threatened to let the three be suspended from the party. The regional executives are saying that this incident will further affect Baba Jamals chances in tomorrows election.Leader of the group, David Dakudzi told Peace FM on Friday that the women's organiser whom they suspect to be an NPP informant, un-invitedly came to the meeting and that they were only trying to prevent her from being part of the meeting. According to him, she is just framing them up in the whole saga. Meanwhile Baba Jamal has described tomorrows re-run as Yetow Afa meaning we are taking it by voting. He told party people that the voting is about Akwatia and that Akwatia people should be prepared to vote for themselves. He said they must consider the betterment of Akwatia, the future of GCD, the construction of a bridge to link the town to Kusi and the status of a new district for the constituency before they vote.
