Essien Backs Baba Rahman To Excel At Chelsea

The former Chelsea midfielder has backed his countryman to have a successful spell at Stamford Bridge. Ghana midfielder Michael Essien has joined the list of people who have been commenting on the transfer of Abdul Rahman Baba from Augsburg to Chelsea. The 21-year-old finally completed his move to Stamford Bridge on Monday after passing a medical in Paris. The left-back joined Jose Mourinhos side for a five-year deal worth 21.7 million. Essien, who is one of the most successful African players to have played for Chelsea, resorted to twitter to express his delight at Babas move. Wishing my countryman Abdul Rahman Baba the very best of luck at Chelsea. All the best my friend, the 32-year-old Panathinaikos midfielder tweeted. Essien spent nine seasons at Chelsea including a loan move to Real Madrid. Baba becomes the third Ghanaian player to work under Mourinho after Essien at Chelsea and Real Madrid, and Sulley Muntari at Inter Milan. The former Kotoko and Dreams FC player will have to work hard to break into the Chelsea line-up. Currently, Cesar Azpilicueta, who is naturally a right-back, operates at the left-back. The sale of Felipe Luis to Atletico Madrid prompted the Blues to launch a serious search for a left-back. Baba has recently become a regular in the Black Stars set-up. He played in all of Ghanas matches at the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations in Equatorial Guinea, where the Stars settled for silver behind Cote DIvoire.
