I Have Lost My Passion For Acting - Brew Riverson Jnr

Brew Riverson Jnr, one of Ghanas favourite actors in the 80s through the 90s has hinted that he has no intentions of acting again as his passion has waned down. The veteran actor who has been conspicuously missing for a while now explained that due to the lost of passion for the job, he is unwilling to take up roles. Speaking in an Interview with Anita Erskine and Bola Ray on the Starr Entertainment segment of the Starr Drive, the actor who used to dazzle many with his smiles on the screens could not explain further his reasons for quitting acting. He was however quick to add that he has gotten to a point in his life where his faith does not allow him to associate himself with certain storylines. Nothing pushed me out. Nothing pushed me out Its not every story I could share the message of telling so I kind of went like let me just let it go. I got to the point where it is not every script I could do and some directors would not like that. I had limited options and the other option was to do it myself, which I was not prepared for. The other option was to fall back on teaching, he reiterated. On his impressions about the Kumawood industry, he stated that the Kumasi brand of movies is keeping the industry going. The vernacular reaches more people and since these people see a market and they have clientele and they are keeping the industry going though it is not a semblance of what we want, he added. Brew Riverson Jnr, the soft-spoken actor who is now a lecturer at the Theater Arts department of the University of Education, Winneba, admitted that though he has been away from the screens for the past nine years, he cant help but admire some great talents in the Industry. If I am to grade them that would not be fair because I have not watched them keenly. Ms Brobbey is good. Ama Mcbrown is also good. There are names I do not know. I like Akroboto, there is some air of versatility that as a teacher I like. I can read some good material when I see it. I have always thought he has something. I have not followed him but most times when I watch a scene with him, I see he is good at expressing nuisances in a meeting, he further explained. Brew Riverson also commended the Why Marry? actor, Majid Michel for his enviable talent and commend for their art. When I see Majid I tell myself I dont have that kind of talent. He is like the distant son It touches my heart when I see good acting. There was a movie he acted where he was an artiste in love with Sidiku Buaris daughter, I went into a students room and it was playing and I was going for a meeting but I sat to watch through. He also commended Shirley Frimpong Manso and Leila Djansi for their good work as producer and director and for keeping the business going. About three months ago, I got a call from Shirley for a script to shoot a movie in the Western Region and I turned it down though she was ready to pay me some good money, but I told her my hands are tied with teaching, he emphasized. Brew Riverson Jnr was last seen in Shirley Frimpongs Life and Living it and has been acting for 13 years. He took to music at a point with producer Dominic Ansah Asare of Mido Productions and now to teaching Theatre Arts.
