Lawyer Vows To Unseat Sorogho

Human Rights Lawyer, Mr. Francis-Xavier Kojo Sosu has vowed to unseat the incumbent Member of Parliament for Madina Constituency of the Greater Accra region, Alhaji Amadu Sorogho. Mr.Sosu who told Today that he is not satisfied with the current pace of development of the constituency, indicated that he would seek to represent his people in parliament. The ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) opened nominations Thursday August 27, 2015 and the 36-year-old legal practitioner picked his form the following day to officially declare his intentions to stand on the partys ticket to contest the parliamentary primaries elections for Madina Constituency. Alhaji Amadu B. Sorogho has sat in the saddle as MP for Madina for three successive terms. Sources at Madina disclosed to Today that somewhere last year, Mr. Sorogho told some party executives in the constituency of his intentions not to contest in the 2016 elections to give the youth the chance to enter parliament. But he recently made a U-turn and subsequently picked his forms to file his candidature. Mr. Sorogho was the first aspirant to pick his form at the NDC constituency office in Madina followed by Lawyer Sosu and three other aspiring parliamentary candidates in that order to contest the Madina seat in the upcoming NDC parliamentary primaries. Information gathered by Today indicated that, even before the opening of nominations by the NDC, Mr.Sorogho had been moving from electoral area-to area waging a smear campaign that, Mr.Sosu was not the true resident of Madina, hence the delegates should reject him. According to sources, Mr.Sorogho was exhibiting such action because he was afraid that he would lose the Madina seat to Lawyer Sosu. The Mr. Sosu was unfazed by Mr.Soroghos scheming, the sources further disclosed adding that, the development is rather spurring him on to unseat the incumbent. Though, Mr. Sorogho picked his forms on Friday August 28, 2015 it is currently not clear if he would fill his nomination forms to re-contest the seat, but Today has gathered that even if he intends to, with the new interest shown in the seat by Mr. Sosu, he risks losing the contest come the primaries . If he does decide to contest Mr.Sosu for the seat, analysts within the ruling NDC contended that that would be the biggest mistake of Mr.Sorogho as he would lose miserably at the primaries given his current low ratings among voters in the constituency. Residents of Madina have often complained about Mr. Soroghos disinterest in the affairs of the constituency, while NDC party members have complained of him losing touch and connection with the party. They contended that Mr. Sosu would be a much better choice if he indeed took up the initiative, adding that voting Mr. Sorogho as the Member of Parliament of the area in 2012 was unfortunate and heart-breaking. They are, therefore, calling for the rejection of Mr. Sorogho as the 2016 parliamentary candidate of the area, arguing that the twelve -years he spent as the constituencys MP was greatly disappointing accusing him of lacking developmental foresight. They said the opinion leaders and the National Democratic Congress branch and constituency executives were hugely dissatisfied with Mr. Sorogho, leading to discontent. It is a sad story and sometimes we feel that we made a mistake in voting for our MP in the constituency. Madina community is crying for development, some of our youth are doing things that are uncalled for, simply because of lack of jobs, they cried out.
