TCCG Condemn Ghana Police Brutality

The Teacher's Coalition for Good Governance wishes to stand in solidarity with those who protested on the Let My Vote Count March on Wednesday 16th September 2015 in Accra. When tear gas and water cannons are fired on citizens who are exercising their constitutional right to protest, Ghana's democracy exists in name only. If the bloated voters register rendered Ghana's democracy suspect, the mobilisation by the government of the police on its citizenry rendered the nation a police state. Citizens who passively sit down whilst the government erodes the building blocks of a normal democracy are not worthy of citizenship. TCCG and other assorted groups will not be suppressed. The police exist to serve and protect, not to do the bidding of government through acts of suppression and oppression. We will fight to stand up for our civil liberties and the erosion of our democracy. We wish to add our voice to the call for a new voters register now, immediately. This is the surest way to having a free, fair and transparent elections in December 2016. For we cannot allow "phantom voters" to carry Mahama and his band of thieves to victory. TCGG, along with other groups, will join the proposed march on September 29th. We encourage all Ghanaians to join us in the struggle to strengthen our democracy as we make a firm demand for a new and credible voters register.
