INVITATION TO CONSULTANCY FIRMS OR INDEPENDENT CONSULTANT(S) FROM COMMONWEALTH MEMBER COUNTRIES WITH A SPECIALISATION IN ISSUES OF COMMONWEALTH HUMAN SEETTLEMENTS AND URBAN DEVELOPMENT IN THE CONTEXT OF A RAPIDLY URBANISING WORLD SUBMISSION OF PROPOSALS Title of Assignment: ComHabit Advocacy and Information Coordinator TOTAL PROJET BUDJET: �8,000 (ALL INCLUSIVE FEE) 1. Short-listing will take place from Monday 21st September, with a view to undertaking selection, appointment and commencing the assignment by mid October 2009 for a period of six months 3. Consultants must demonstrate their knowledge of the subject by clearly interpreting the terms of reference attached and providing a methodology and approach that they will adopt in undertaking the assignment. 4. Consultants must provide a clear work plan that they will use in undertaking the assignment. 5. Consultants must provide the names and nationalities of all the consultants who will involved in the project, their respective levels of effort and their CVs. 6. ComHabitat aims to promote and monitor the implementation of the Habitat Agenda, and the Commonwealth Goal of �Demonstrated progress towards adequate shelter for all with secure tenure and access to essential services in every community by 2015� It focuses on networking and sharing practical examples of progress in three strategic areas: To improve financial investment to ensure adequate shelter for all, including access to essentials services To strengthen leadership and governance by Habitat Agenda partner in approach to sustainable and equitable human settlements development. To reduce risks and build community resilience in an urbanizing world. The partners of ComHabitat are seeking the services of a consultant or consultancy to maintain ComHabita�s profile through its website, newsletters and contacts. This includes the drafting of documents and articles based on own research and that of partners. Description of key outputs: Review the ComHabitat website and produce a plan to update it. Research and produce draft input for six articles, one per month, from within the partner organizations. The Consultant will be required to provide a context for the articles reflecting current issues in human settlements. Articles will be approved by members of the partnership. Collate and issue two quarterly e � newsletters on ConHabitat activities and major developments within the sector using inputs from members of the partnership and from other material produced during the assignment. Updating of website as agreed with the project managers; and liaise with the technical support staff to ensure the website is updated regularly; and the E � Newsletter is created and distributed. Work with the Grants Team at the Foundation to developing stories (where possible) on the role of civil society in dealing with the issues of sustainable and equitable human settlements development. Address all queries received by Comhabitat either through use of own knowledge or by directing the query to the appropriate stakeholder. Produce three progress reports � and inception, midyear and final report � to the ComHabitat management group. Person Specification Minimum of 3 years experience in the field of sustainable human settlement/habitat issues in developing countries. Excellent written skills and ability to draft text for submission in a number of different media formats. Excellent research skills and ability to and conceptualise Commonwealth concerns on human settlement. A good understanding of the habitat agenda and a developing country perspective is important. The candidate will have a mix communications/media and development skills. Good understanding of the roles and perspectives of all partner and stakeholders. Ability to engage proactively with ComHabitat management team members, UN Habitat and other relevant organisations. You will be expected to work principally via email contacts, by phone and may be required to attend management team meeting in London.
