The Ghana Nurses and Midwife Trainees Association (GNMTA) has said it will declare a nationwide strike if nothing positive is heard from government over their delayed placement to various hospitals.

The resultant effect, if the strike takes place, is that nursing students will pour out on the streets to register their wrath.

Speaking to NEAT FM’s 'Ghana Montie' the national president of the association, Emmanuel Geyevo, said several petitions have been sent to both the Ministry of Health and Ministry for redress; however, they have been to no avail.

“For the past two years after our national services, we have not been placed to any hospital to work. This is frustrating. They claim government don’t have money so we should relax,” he said.

According to Emmanuel Geyevo, the situation is creating financial turbulence for about 6,000 students nationwide – “inappropriate means of generating money to survive.”
