Ghanaians Asked Not To Politicise Issues

Two leading members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) have called on Ghanaians not to politicise issues relating to national and community development.

They have also stressed the need for people to bury their political differences and work in unity to rebuild the nation.

The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Birim South, Mr Emmanuel Kwakye, and the Member of Parliament (MP) for Akyem Swedru, Mr Kennedy Osei Nyarko, who made the call, further advised politicians to impress upon their supporters to be tolerant and conduct their campaigns with decorum in order to sustain the prevailing peace in the country.

They were addressing members of the Accra-Tema branch of Akyem Awisa-Apaaso Citizens Association at a well-attended durbar organised by the association at Sakumono last weekend to plan and execute a development programme to uplift the two communities.

In attendance were dignitaries such as Nana Yaw Osafo-Maafo, former Minister of Finance in the Kufuor administration, Dr Isaac Adjei-Maafo, a former Minister of Cocoa Affairs in the Rawlings regime, Prof. Kwame Karikari of the School of Communication Studies, Legon, the Awisahene, Nana Kwarteng Karikari III, and a host of Awisa sub-chiefs and other prominent citizens of the town.

Mr Osei Nyarko the people in the area to take a cue from him and the DCE to cooperate with one another and avoid discrimination on political lines to accelerate the progress of the area.

Both Mr Kwakye and Mr Osei Nyarko mentioned a number of development projects they had undertaken in the area and promised to support the association in its efforts to develop the two communities.

The Awisahene commended members of the association for their commitment to the development of the area and assured them of the maximum support of the chiefs and elders of Awisa and Achiase to ensure that they succeed.

He advised the people to refrain from spending their resource on items such as expensive funeral cloths at the expense of their children’s education.

The MP, Mr Osei Nyarko, donated a generator worth GH¢8,000 to the Awisa community while he and the DCE pledged 100 bags and 50 bags of cement respectively to the association to supplement development projects they were undertaking in the two communities.

An appeal for fund yielded GH¢21,000 in cash and pledges.
