General Secretary of the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA), Deborah Freeman, has assured all the stakeholders in the music industry of a free and fair election at the upcoming MUSIGA congress slated from October 29-31 in Koforidua.
In an interview with BEATWAVES on Monday, she revealed that the leadership of MUSIGA and the election committee would see to it that the election will be conducted in a free-and-fair manner.
Deborah, who has been in the gospel music scene for over a decade with two albums to her credit, has been working as the MUSIGA general secretary under Obour’s administration since 2011.
She is the only woman who emerged successful in the 2011 MUSIGA national elections held in Tamale, and has actually proved beyond doubt that she is a force to reckon with.
She added that considering what she has achieved in her tenure, she deserves to be given the opportunity to continue her good works to improve the lot of musicians in Ghana.
On why she deserves a second term as MUSIGA general secretary, she said, “I have done a lot of work as a MUSIGA secretary; the records are there for all to see. I have sustained the interest of the members and also putting strictures in place for the smooth running of the day to day activities of the union. I have done a lot for the union and because of my achievement I am going unopposed.”
Based on her achievement, Deborah has been appointed as the General Secretary of the Union of Informal Workers Associations (UNIWA) of Trade Union Congress (TUC).
