Spio Accuses Finance Ministry Of Theft?

The Minister for Trade and Industry (MOTI) has appointed accusing fingers at his colleague at the Ministry of Finance for illegally debiting a huge amount out of the account of the Trade Ministry.

According to Spio Garbrah, the debiting was a harsh and unconscionable act by the Finance Ministry that shows a total lack of respect for the Trade Ministry.

Ekwow Spio-Garbrah made these statements in a letter dated 15th October, 2015, a copy of which has been intercepted by the Daily Searchlight.

The letter was titled “Re Wrong Debt To Account Number 1018631539211.” Dr. Ekwow Spio-Garbrah wrote, “The attention of the Ministry of Trade and industry (MOTI) has been drawn to a debit to the account of the Ministry at the Bank of Ghana totaling One Million, four hundred and thirteen thousand and Nine cedis, seventeen pesewas (GH1,413,009.17) which represents the entire 2015 budget allocation to the Ministry.

He went on further, “We wish to inquire if this withdrawal from MOTI account was by or upon the instruction of the Ministry of Finance, and if so why MOTI did not deserve at least a collegial and brotherly forewarning with an explanation for this harsh action at a time when MOTI’s dependency funds from DIC operations has been nearly eliminated, the removal of MOTI’s entire 2015 budgetary allocation will paralyze the entire industrial and export development programme of Ghana.

“We look forward earnestly response including an indication of when the funds will be replaced – if this action was occasioned by the Ministry of Finance.

Sincerely

“Dr. Ekwow Spio-Grabrah
