Afoko Is Finished As NPP Chairman- Kweku Baako

Editor in Chief of the New Crusading Guide newspaper, Abdul Malik Kweku Baako, has predicted that Paul Afoko’s days as the National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) are over.

He said the embattled chairman has effectively lost the “political war” against the leadership of the party therefore “he is finished as the NPP Chair”.

He made these observations after the National Executive Committee (NEC) and the National Council of the party held separate meetings on Tuesday to among other things, affirm their support for NPP’s acting chairman, Freddie Blay despite the attempt by the suspended chairman to stop the meeting.

Mr. Paul Afoko had in a release on Monday, called on NPP’s NEC members not to attend the meeting called by acting National Chairman Freddie Blay because he has filed a writ in court seeking an injunction on his suspension.

Any such meeting would be "illegal", he stated.

Speaking on Peace FM Wednesday, Kweku Baako said if the embattled NPP Chairman had cooperated with the party in the beginning, the consequences would not have been so dire.

“We are all here because he didn’t handle the whole thing properly. It is unnecessary for him to still hold himself as the National Chairman of the party…as I keep saying, to prove the king is not naked he should call a meeting” he added.

Mr. Baako said though Mr. Afoko and his legal team have filed a suit in court, it will be an exercise in futility even if the suspended chairman wins the case because his subordinates will not give him the reverence he deserves.

“They still have residual legal battle to fight within the structures of the party and in the law courts as well. But I cannot imagine Mr. Paul Afoko, even if he wins can have moral and political authority to chair the party” he noted.
