Afokos Petition Doesnt Mean He Has Accepted Suspension... - Aide

Many have argued that the petition of the embattled National Chairman of the NPP, Paul Afoko to the National Council to review his suspension is an admission of his suspension but his camp has begged to differ on that school of thought.

The beleaguered National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party’s camp says the petition written to the National Council of the party is rather meant to point out the flaws of the National Executive Committee in using illegal means to suspend Paul Afoko as National Chairman.

Speaking on Okay Fm’s Ade Akye Abia Morning Show, Afoko’s Aide, Lawyer Nana Yaw Osei recounts that the appeal has been made due to the illegal means the NEC used to suspend Afoko.

He mentioned that the National Council goofed in the letter addressed to Paul Afoko.

“Afoko’s petition does not mean he has accepted his suspension. The appeal has been made due to the illegal means the NEC used to suspend him and we want the law of the party to work…even if Afoko’s suspension is based on the Constitution, he will only be called former or suspended chairman after the days of the appeal has elapsed,” he stated.

He insisted the content of the National Council’s letter to Afoko was a breach of the party’s constitution as the letter stated that he (Afoko) ceases to be the National Chairman; thus, the same constitution allows him to remain chairman until he fails to appeal within the stipulated days.

“Today, we address Afoko as suspended chairman or former but meanwhile our constitution says he becomes former after 21 days if he does not appeal to the National Council. This is why we are saying what is going on is against our party’s constitution,” he stated.

He assured to move the matter to court if the National Council fails to adjudicate on the case on the basis of the party’s constitution; stressing that the appeal is the first move of Paul Afoko.
