WC 2018 Qualifier: Ghana 2 -0 Comoro Island; Sluggish Stars' Qualify For Next Stage

The senior national soccer team, the Black Stars' have beaten Comoro Islands by two goals to nil in the ongoing Russia 2018 World Cup qualifiers in Kumasi, wet Tuesday afteroon.

Mubarak Wakaso opened the score with a superb free kick in the 17th minute after captain Asamoah Gyan was impeded at the edge of the box.

Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu could have put the Black Stars ahead after he blasted away a golden opportunity as early as the third minute.

The Black Stars were under pressure to fill their boots against a side ranked 177th in the FIFA rankings, but struggled to bury their opponent under avalanche of goals.

It took the skill of Spain-based Mubarak Wakaso to hand the four-time African champions a well-deserved lead after he drilled home a fabulous free-kick.

The Black Stars burst into life after Wakaso's opener and enjoyed the chunk of possession in the first half.

Jonathan Mensah limped off with what appears to be a hamstring injury.

The Evian TG defender was blocking defense with John Boye but had to limp off after 28 minutes of the encounter only to be replaced by Daniel Amartey.

Jonathan who is playing his second game for Ghana after serving his FIFA ban was spotted complaining to the referee to let him go off after he appeared to have overstretched for a ball.

Jordan Ayew added the second in the 85th minute.

Ghana has qualified to the next stage of the qualification process.

The Black Stars were held to a shock 0-0 draw last Friday by the islanders who are yet to win an official game in their history and only earned through to this stage of qualifying for the first time in their history on away goals following a 1-1 aggregate draw with Lesotho in the preliminary qualifying round.
