Sam George 'Attacks' Dr. Bawumia: Having PhD In Economics Isnt Same As Running A Country

NDC Ningo Prampram Parliamentary aspirant, Sam George has jabbed NPP running mate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia telling him holding a PhD in economics has nothing to do with running a country.

President John Dramani Mahama lashed out at some elements in the opposition especially New Patriotic Party's Vice Presidential Candidate, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, for continually describing him as incompetent.

In an unusually fiery speech at the launch of the Greater Accra NDC Agenda 2016 in Accra on Monday, the President lambasted leaders of NPP, saying they did not know what it meant to be President.

Singling out Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia for criticism, President Mahama said the running mate to the NPP flagbearer had not held any position or undertaken any responsibility that came close to the work of the President, yet he always saw the need to call him incompetent.

He said he would not mind if former President Jerry Rawlings or President John Kufuor called him incompetent, but would not accept that from people like Dr. Bawumia.

Endorsing the posture of President Mahama on Okay Fm’s Ade Akye Abia Morning Show, Sam George stated “having PhD in economics is not the same as running a country”.

Touching on Dr. Bawumia’s credentials as one of the former deputies of the Bank of Ghana, Sam George said the Vice Presidential Candidate of NPP could not head Bank of Ghana though he is an academician with PhD in economics.

He added that despite the fact that people accord Dr. Alhaji Bawumia with that respect as an economic technocrat, his PhD in economics is theoretical and ruling a country is practical which disqualifies him to criticize President Mahama as a President.

Ruling a country is practical and having a PhD is theory; the PhD is economic theory that is supply and demand thing and then you apply your own theory and you are awarded with the PhD certificate, but there is no theory which will tell you there will be flood and fire disasters on June 3, 2015,” he stated.

He added “there is no theory which will tell the President that the largest opposition party will become a national security risk; there is no theory being president. At the end of the day, the theory and practicals are completely on a different wave-length and so if you are not there yet, don’t talk as if you know what is there”.

He however pointed to Dr. Bawumia and Nana Akufo-Addo to concentrate on restoring peace in the NPP as that should be their primary preoccupation as leaders of the party.
