I have tried checking the authenticity of the so-called Mugabe condemnation of President Mahama for openly mourning with the government and people of France. So far nothing points to the fact that Mugabe said those words because none of the websites that have published the story are able to give any byline or dateline to the story. It doesn't say when and where those comments were made. It appears someone started it here in Ghana on WhatsApp.

Even granted that those words were true, President Mahama cannot be guilty as charged. He was one of the few Presidents who openly spoke against the atrocities Israel periodically visits on Palestine. I praised him on my Facebook wall and remember how some self-proffessed diplomatic experts criticised him. He was reminded to mind his own business and not cause diplomatic blunder. Ironically those who condemned the president were quick to change their profile pictures to the national colours of France.

For me, there's nothing wrong with mourning and praying for France. It is the best thing to do. After all, terrorists don't spare any nationality. When Al- Shabab struck in Kenya an eminent Ghanaian professor was killed.

What I think we ought to do beyond the periodic show of sympathy is to speak up against decisions and actions of the Super Powers that give rise to acts of terrorism. And that is what President Mahama did at the UN. So he cannot be a disgrace to Africa.

While we condemn unnecessary Western interferences that create failed states and make them havens for terrorists, we must equally condemn the likes of Mugabe whose intoxication with power brings about such interferences.

Our elders say the best way to starve a river is to cripple its source. In the same way, the best way to to defeat terrorism is to stop creating safe havens for them. Let's deal with those who create them, those who fund them and those who supply them with weapons and vehicles. Let's find and stop those who do business with them, the businesses and countries which buy the illegal oil seized by the terrorists. Let's deal with the merchants of war.

America and the other big brothers of this world must be honest and just in their policing of the world.

We must defeat greed, injustice and hypocrisy. And we can defeat terrorism.
