Ghana Fa’s spokesperson has revealed that the telecommunication company is asking for an out-of-court settlement.
Ghana Football Association communication director, Ibrahim Saanie Daara has revealed that telecommunication giants Globacom has asked to move a pending legal tussle from court, after abruptly terminating their sponsorship agreement signed in 2008.
The company signed a five-year deal with the football association to become headline sponsors of the local league but opted to bow out two years later.
"Ghana FA took the issue to court but Globacom discussed with us for out-of-court settlement,” Daara told Starr FM.
“They even asked for a reduction in the arrears to be paid so that they can pay the debt. That is the update of the last meeting we held with them.
“We will definitely meet them again in the coming months and we hope to arrive at a final decision. Hopefully, we will receive the monies and pay each club what they are due,” he added.
Goal understands that Globacom owes Ghana FA around $3.5 million. However, the company is facing financial difficulties, according to reports. Their last tranche of payment to the football association was in 2011.
Ghana FA are deliberating on a possible legal actions against First Capital Plus bank, who also suspended their sponsorship deal worth $2 million in November per season after replacing Globacom.
