Charles Asomani, a 40-year-old farmer, was on Friday jailed 12 years in hard labour by the Mpraeso Circuit Court for breaking into a mobile phone workshop and stealing four mobile phones. Asomani alias Muntaro pleaded guilty to all the three counts of unlawful entry, stealing and unlawful assault. Police Chief Inspector Alex Gyamera Acheampong prosecuting, told the court presided over by Justice Alex Owusu- Ofori that on August 10 this year, Asomani broke into the mobile phone workshop belonging to one Asante through the ceiling and took away four phones, an amount of GHC 170 and a mini lamp. He said three days later, Asomani went to a witness in the case who sells mobile phone credit cards, to purchase a credit card for his mobile phone. The prosecutor said the witness detected that the mobile phone being used by Asomani belongs to Asante. The witness then made a report to a policeman on bank duty in the area, but Asomani took to his heels and the witness gave him a hot chase. The prosecutor said while the witness was arresting Asomani, he bit his left arm, but the witness was able to arrest him and took him to the police station. He said during interrogation Asomani admitted the offence, but said the amount he took was GH� 45 and not GHC 170 as being alleged, and that he had used it to repair the phones he took from the workshop. The court ordered that the phones be returned to their owners.
