Cole Terminates Roma Contract

Ashley Cole has had his Roma contract terminated by mutual consent, paving the way for a move to MLS side LA Galaxy.

The former England left back signed for the Serie A side in July 2014, but is now expected to seal a move to America to join up with Steven Gerrard in Los Angeles.

In a statement on their website, Roma thanked Cole for his efforts and wished him well for the next stage of his career.
As reported by Sportsmail earlier this week, Cole is in discussions with LA Galaxy over a move, and could yet be joined by Aston Villa defender Joleon Lescott.

The 33-year-old Lescott has been offered a three-year contract by the Major League Soccer franchise, and is weighing up his options before deciding on his future.

Cole, meanwhile, is likely to seal a move to America, where he would play in his third country, following spells in England and Italy.

The 35-year-old, who made just 11 league appearances for Roma during his time in the Italian capital, played for Arsenal and Chelsea in the Premier League, as well as a brief loan spell with Crystal Palace in the Championship.

Cole made his Roma debut on 30 August 2014, a 2-0 win over Fiorentina, and also represented Rudi Garcia’s side five times in the Champions League and Italian Cup.

Garcia has now left the Serie A side to be replaced by Luciano Spalletti, but Cole will not play under the new manager.
