Tamale Central Prison In Deplorable State

Tamale central prisons in the Northern Region was established in the year 1914, has since seen no renovation.

The prison is currently lodging 288 inmates.

The region main prison yard has only 8 water closets(WC) which serves 288 inmates,with 8 in a deplorable state.

This has made life terrible in the prison where some inmates free themselves in buckets. 

Inadequate supply of water, electricity has also been a challenge. Disease outbreak cannot be controlled due to luck of FIRST AID.

Ministry for gender, children and social protection led by the honorable minister Nana Oye Lithur visited the facility and donated food stuffs to the inmates, and promised to renovate the facility.

The ministers further registered all the inmates free onto the National health insurance scheme to be able access quality health service.
