The New Patriotic Party’s Parliamentary Candidate for the Binduri Constituency in the Upper East Region, Abdulai Abanga has told the DAILY GUIDE that, the selection of a son of the Binduri District, as the Deputy Upper East Regional Minister, should have come earlier.
According to him, the district had seen very little development under seven years of this government and if giving their son, Dr Robert Baba Kuganab-Lem a position in the government was in anyway meant to empower him to attract development projects to the area, then, it should have been done earlier, to curb the needless pain and hustle the people had gone through.
The Former MCE for the Bawku Municipality, said in as much as he is happy that a native of Binduri was to be elevated to a Deputy Ministerial position, he thinks, the people of Binduri would have appreciated more developmental projects in their area to enable them improve upon their living standards, health and education of their children.
Abdulai Abanga congratulated the Deputy Upper East Regional Minister nominee for his elevation, saying election in Binduri area, will largely depend on the performance of the individual candidates in their personal capacities, as well as the Parties they are representing.
“During our tenure of office, Binduri benefited a lot from the New Patriotic Party, in the area of dams, roads, bridges, health and education. Personally, I contributed in these areas and the built the capacity of the human resource base of the area. Unfortunately very little has been added to these developments since the NPP left,” the ex-MCE stated.
Critics of the recent appointments for the positions of the Upper East Region say, the appointments made by the President are just preparations for the 2016 elections and not necessarily for the development of the region. There have been questions as to why no Upper East Regional Minister under President Mahama’s reign has served more than one year.
