Political Leaders Asked To Eschew Violence

A call has gone to political leaders to impress upon their members, especially the youth, to eschew all forms of violence during the 2016 electioneering.

According to the Rt. Rev. Col. Paul Adjei-Brewu (retd), the immediate past Bishop of the Akyem Oda Diocese of the Methodist Church of Ghana, violence with its attendant atrocities, if not checked, had the potential of tearing the nation apart.

Making the call, he also urged the various political parties to adopt effective strategies and campaign messages to enhance their chances in the November 7, 2016 election.

Rt. Rev. Adjei-Brewu was delivering a sermon at an induction service for Very Rev. Solomon Bruce as the Superintendent Minister of Akyem Awisa Circuit of the Methodist Church at a ceremony at Akyem Awisa last Sunday.
The function attracted people from all walks of life, including politicians from both sides of the political divide.

Some of the dignitaries were Mr Yaw Osafo-Maafo, a former Minister of Finance, Mr Isaac Adjei-Maafo, a former Minister of Cocoa Affairs, Messrs Kennedy Osei Nyarko and

William Agyapong Quiattoo, MPs for Akyem Swedru and Oda respectively, Mr Emmanuel Kwakye, the District Chief Executive for Birim South, Nana Kwarteng Karikari, Awisahene, Nana Ohemeng Awere V, Assin Nsutahene and Obrepong Gyamfi Saforo Kyereh II, Krontihene of Akyem Kotoku Traditional Area.

Rt. Rev. Adjei-Brewu appealed to the government, as a matter of urgency, to reduce the recent utility tariffs, fuel prices and the killer taxes to minimize the current economic hardships facing Ghanaians.

“If the government fails to heed the advice, it will negatively affect the fortunes of the National Democratic Congress in election 2016,” he stressed.

He further admonished the government to review the policy on the school feeding programme to enable schoolchildren to enjoy quality as well as a balanced diet.

In his maiden address, Rev. Solomon Bruce thanked the top hierarchy of the Methodist Church of Ghana, the Oda Diocese of the church and the Awisa Ebenezer Society of the church for the trust and confidence reposed in him and promised to live up to expectation.

He advised Ghanaian politicians not to exploit the people but rather offer good governance to raise their living standards.
